As discussed in the asbestos overview section, all new uses of asbestos in the U.S. have been banned since 1989, but removal of asbestos from each and every source that existed prior to that date is not possible. Therefore, it is important to be familiar with the many different substances, products, and materials that may contain asbestos, especially if you believe that you or a loved one are developing an asbestos-related illness.
