July 13, 2006: Study Suggests Evista Raises Risk of Stroke and Blood Clot
Clinical trials have shown that osteoporosis drug Evista may reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. A recent study published by the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that while postmenopausal women who took Evista developed significantly fewer cases of breast cancer than women who took a placebo, they also had significantly more fatal strokes and potentially dangerous blood clots. May 10, 2005: FDA Warns Consumers on Counterfeit Drugs Purchased in Mexico
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public about the sale of counterfeit versions of drugs including an unapproved product promoted as "generic Evista." These counterfeit drugs are sold to U.S. consumers at pharmacies in Mexican border towns. The FDA (in coordination with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy) analyzed "generic Evista" and found it to contain no active ingredient. Click here to read more from the FDA.
