CPSC Names Director Of Communications
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 14) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced that Kenneth R. Rashid has been selected to serve as Associate Executive Director for Communications for the Commission.
As communications director, Rashid will supervise a staff of approximately 55 CPSC employees responsible for informing and educating the American public on product safety and health issues. This CPSC department designs and produces various publications, multi-media materials, films, video-tapes, and public service announcements, as well as producing an agency newsletter and operating a bureau to coordinate speaking engagements by agency spokespersons. The communications staff also responds to consumer inquiries through its toll-free Consumer Hotline, its correspondence unit, and other outreach operations.
Rashid, 40, has worked at CPSC since March 1, 1974, beginning as chief of consumer relations and becoming the acting director of communications early in 1978. His career of government service also includes four years with HEW's National Child Advocacy Program, five years of management within Project Head Start, and two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines.
A 1961 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Rashid lives in Potomac, MD., with his wife, Dawn, and their three children, Alexis Anne, 8; Julie Elizabeth, 5; and K. Douglas, 4.
