CPSC Seeks Applicants For Three Advisory Committees
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 25) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission is seeking applicants for vacancies occurring in July 1, 1979 on three CPSC advisory committees. Applications for these two-year terms must be received by the Commission no later than July 31, 1979.
Eight vacancies will be filled on the Product Safety Advisory Council. Three of the vacancies are in the consumer category, three in the government category, and two in the industry category. This Council assists the Commission by providing advice on major policy decisions and on proposed Commission regulatory actions. The Council is composed of 15 members, equally divided among representatives of business, consumer organizations and government.
Eleven vacancies will be filled on the National Advisory Committee for the Flammable Fabrics Act. Six of the vacancies are in the consumer category and five in the industry category. This Committee is consulted for opinions, advice and recommendations before the Commission issues flammability standards or other regulations under the Flammable Fabrics Act. It is composed of 20 members, ten representing consumers and ten representing manufacturers and distributors.
Eight vacancies will be filled on the Technical Advisory Committee on Poison Prevention Packaging. Five of the vacancies are in the consumer category and three in the industry category. Composed of 18 members representing consumers, industry and government, this Committee provides recommendations to the Commission on packaging standards to protect children from accidental poisoning and on requests for exemptions from existing regulations.
Applicants selected to serve on advisory committees are generally entitled to compensation of $100 per day for participation in Committee meetings plus necessary travel expenses. The meetings are held at least twice a year in Washington, D.C.
The format for applications may be found in the Federal Register notice of June 11, 1979, or interested persons may obtain instructions for applying from the Committee Management Officer, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Washington, D.C. 20207, telephone (202) 634-7700.
The Commission attempts to balance membership on each advisory committee in terms of geographic location, age, sex and race. CPSC also seeks the widest possible diversity of experience, expertise, background and interests in the membership of its advisory committees.
