Pennsylvania Firm Recalls Sausage Products Because of Undercooking
WASHINGTON, May 31, 2003-Shannondale Country Meats, a Mayport, Pa., establishment, is voluntarily recalling approximately 200 pounds of kolbassi sausage because of undercooking, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
The products being recalled are 2-pound packages and 12-ounce packages of "Shannondale Country Meats Kolbassi," packed 12 to a case. There are no codes on the individual packages. Each case of "Shannondale Country Meats Kolbassi" bears the code "Lot 132." Also printed on each case is "Est. 20066" inside the USDA seal of inspection.
The product was produced on May 12, 2003, and was distributed to retail stores in Pennsylvania.
"We urge consumers to check their
refrigerators and freezers for products with the Shannondale Country Meats
Kolbassi label," said Dr. Garry L. McKee, FSIS administrator. "If consumers find
the recalled products then
they should return them to the point of purchase."
The problem was discovered through routine FSIS inspection procedures.
Consumers or media with questions about the recall may contact Brad Lockwood, owner, at 814-365-5091.
Consumers with other food safety questions can phone the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-800-535-4555. The hotline is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time), Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.
