California Firm Recalls Chicken Product
WASHINGTON, May 28, 2003Dhaka Import and Export Company, a Los Angeles, Calif., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 21,000 pounds of chicken products that have entered the country improperly, the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
The products subject to recall are approximately 1.2 lb. boxes of favour-ita, THE FAMILY FAVOURITE, Chicken Biriyani. The products were distributed to retail stores and distributors in Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.
The products originated from India, a country not certified to export meat and poultry products to the U.S. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician. Consumers who have the product should return it to the point of purchase.

Consumers with food safety questions can phone the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at l-800-535-4555. The hotline is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from l0 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. Recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.
