California Firm Recalls Chicken Product

WASHINGTON, May 28, 2003—Dhaka Import and Export Company, a Los Angeles, Calif., firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 21,000 pounds of chicken products that have entered the country improperly, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The products subject to recall are approximately 1.2 lb. boxes of “favour-ita, THE FAMILY FAVOURITE, Chicken Biriyani.” The products were distributed to retail stores and distributors in Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Washington.

The products originated from India, a country not certified to export meat and poultry products to the U.S. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician. Consumers who have the product should return it to the point of purchase.
