CPSC Announces Members To New Toxicological Advisory Board
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 17) -- The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)announced the appointment of members to its newly-created Toxicological Advisory Board. The nine member Board will advise the Commission on precautionary labeling for acutely toxic household substances and on instructions for first aid treatment labeling.
In addition, the Board will review labeling requirements that have been issued under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) and recommend revisions it deems appropriate.
The new members, chosen from a field of more than 80 applicants, represent various medical and scientific fields. The appointees will serve three-year terms ending in June 1, 1982, and will convene at least twice a year.
The new members of the Toxicological Advisory Board are:
Carol R. Angle, M.D., Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Angle is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Nebraska's College of Medicine. She has been a certified member of the American Board of Medical Toxicology since August 1, 1977 and has served as president of the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
Jay M. Arena, M.D., Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Arena is a professor of pediatrics at Duke University's School of Medicine and the director of the Poison Control Center at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Arena has been concerned with the accidental poisoning of children for more than 40 years and is the author of several books dealing with that subject.
Regine Aronow, M.D., Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Aronow is the director of the Poison Control Center of Children's Hospital of Michigan and an associate professor of pediatrics at Wayne State University. Dr. Aronow is currently on the board of trustees of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.
Rose Dagirmanjian, Ph.D., Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Dagirmanjian is a professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville. She is a member of the American Society of Toxicology and the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
Robert E. Gosselin, M.D., Ph.D., Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Gosselin is a professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Gosselin founded the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Poison Information Center in 1957. He is the senior author of Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products. He has held the Irene Heinz Given Professor of Pharmacology chair at Dartmouth since 1964.
R. Page Hudson, M.D., Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dr. Hudson is the Chief Medical Examiner for the state of North Carolina. He is a professor of pathology and also serves as Chairman of the Division of Forensic Pathology at the University of North Carolina.
Corrine Ray, R.N., B.S., Los Angeles, California. Ms. Ray is the director of the Poison Information Center at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Ms. Ray is a member of the American Association of Poison Control Centers and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.
Barry H. Rumack, M.D., Denver, Colorado. Dr. Rumack is an associate professor of pediatrics and medicine and an assistant professor of pharmacology at the University of Colorado Medical Center. He also serves as the Director of the Rocky Mountain Poison Prevention Center at Denver General Hospital. Dr. Rumack is a member and examiner of the American Board of Medical Toxicology.
Dr. Anthony R. Temple, M.D., Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Temple is currently the Medical Director and clinical associate professor of pediatrics and toxicology at the Intermountain Regional Poison Control Center, University of Utah Medical Center. Beginning July 1, 1979, Dr. Temple will be a medical toxicologist with McNeil Consumer Products Company, a pharmaceutical company in Fort Washington, Pa. Dr. Temple is a member of the American Board of Medical Toxicology and president-elect of the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
